Projects :: Coastal Flooding Study,
City of Norfolk
Fugro Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia has been awarded a multi-year, task order contract by the Storm Water Management Division of the City of Norfolk Department of Public Works. The contract is intended to allow the City to better identify risks and options to address nuisance and storm flooding along the 180 miles of shoreline surrounding the City. The study will evaluate the effect of wind-driven rain, tidal departures, extraordinary precipitation events, and storm surges.
Fugro Atlantic will:
- Provide overall project management;
- Lead the data acquisition, and geosciences evaluations to be conducted;
- Plan, install and monitor a network of long-term tide gauges; and
- Develop the GIS platform for the flood model. Together with its subconsultants, Fugro will conduct coastal engineering evaluations, to define flodding exposure and prioritize remedial projects. Fugro will be develop an interactive, predictive flood-impact model, identify potential options to mitigate flooding, and provide the engineering design for selected alternatives.
In addition to the predictive flooding model, the project team is evaluating the adequacy of existing flood defense structures for the City.
